Toward the end of the film, a man is buried alive in the tomb, to which thousand of beetles come out and prepare to swarm him (his torch goes out right before his scream cuts the scene. Most of the sequences in which the people are killed by the Mummy only shows a cyclone of wind wrap around them until they are nothing but bones (no gore is shown).

Some of the more bizarre scenes involve a golf ball sized beetle crawling into a man's skin and continuing to crawl throughout his body (seen as a ripple in his skin) until he runs into a wall and kills himself, a skeleton mummy killing people and stealing parts of their bodies to re-animate himself (the most intense of which is a man losing his eyes and tongue, and is later completely killed). Violence/Frightening content includes men being shot, burned alive, and stabbed.

Though The Mummy has many classic adventure movie elements (as well as an Indiana Jones-styled main character), it does deliver quite a bit more intense content than most "Adventure" films, and is coupled with the horror genre as well. This movie is certainly entertaining, and I would recommend it for 13 and up, but even then parents may need to fast-forward some of the scenes involving the beetles, as they are quite gross. As for sexual content, there is one VERY scantily clad woman near the beginning, who is the wife of the pharaoh. These more resemble traditional mummies, and are wrapped in rotting cloth or in some cases armor. Aside from the main Mummy villain, there are many other that serve as his minions. He looks much like the mummy did at the beginning, withered and rotting. In one case, the corpse of one of these victims is shown. Of course, no such scenes are shown, but the undead fellow shows up later, looking more and more like a complete human.
To do this, he must remove the body parts of other men, eyes, tongue, ears, etc. He has been accidentally raised from the dead by one of the protagonists, and seeks to return to his human form. Not your stereotypical toilet-paper mummy.
When he first appears, he is grotesque and rotting, almost skeletal. One of the various monsters on this movie are carrion beetles about the size of a cell phone, that burrow into the skin of victims. Violence: standard PG-13 stuff, although a few notable intense scenes. Whether or not this movie is good for kids depends widely on the views of the parent, and what they don't want their kids to see. This is a truly great film, but probably not A very kid-friendly one.
